Tragic Murder-Suicide Claims Student’s Life at Rice University

A Rice University student was discovered fatally attacked in her dorm room in Houston on Monday noon, and the person who was suspected was the person she was dating, was discovered dead nearby, officers said.

Rice University recognized the female as Andrea Rodriguez Avila, a youngster from Maryland. Campus Police Chief Clemente Rodriguez express associates of her family were stressing about the lack of communication and asked that officials check up on her.

Once a university officer located that she skipped at least one class Monday, officers rolled in soon before 4 p.m. for an interest check, Rodriguez spoke at a news meeting Monday evening.

That’s when they discovered her body in her space at the Jones College on-campus residency hall, near the suspect’s body and a letter he is suppose to have written, Rodriguez stated. The note indicated to students that the two were “including a disturbed relationship,” he said.

“They were dating,” he told.

Detectives acknowledge the suspect passed from a self-inflicted gunshot injury, Rodriguez stated. His essence was not removed. The chief expressed he may be from Florida.

Investigators acknowledge the man got into the home by accompanying Avila, who had credentials, Rodriguez stated.

There was no indication of forced access, administrators expressed in a statement Monday night managed to pupils, parents, staff associates, and faculty fellows. Counseling is open to students 24 hours a day, officials said in the statement.

“I want our pupils, parents, and Rice residents that the place is safe for all the students and it is not a threat. Today we will ensure that our teachers and students will be secure,” Rice University President Reginald DesRochesstates.

Jones College began in 1957 with $1 million from the Houston Endowment, as Mary Gibbs Jones College.

Rice University Police Chief Clemente Rodriguez spoke to Avila. A junior from Maryland, and the supposed sharpshooter was in “a dating connection.”

Rodriguez said a letter, written by the supposed shooter, was located at the location. He stated it was “a ton about their connection” and indicated that “they were carrying a troubled connection.”

Police believe the supposed shooter acquired entry to the dorm through Avila. 

“A family partner had not attended from our researcher, Andrea, and desired to check on her. 

Police decided that Avila had not heard any of her classes, and chose to check her dorm space around 4 p.m. regional time. When police joined Avila’s room, they made the tragic discovery.

The academy shared rapid-fire updates on its X version as the happening unfolded. 

“RUPD is exploring a possible homicide at Jones College. All learners should remain in their rooms until further information. Faculty and attendants should harbor in place until additional notice,” the school reported around 6 p.m.
